Keep It Wild Volunteer Day

Come on out and help restore the wild lands we so enjoy! There’s no better way to start a Saturday morning than by joining Laguna Canyon Foundation and OC Parks staff in an invigorating project of non-native plant removal and/or planting native plants. Help us make a healthier environment for the native wildlife and for ourselves.

Introduction to Mountain Bike Riding

Learn mountain biking basics and trail etiquette on this 6.8-mile ride over steep and uneven terrain (800-ft. elevation gain) while enjoying canyon views. Please come prepared with a bike suitable for off-pavement riding, sturdy shoes, helmet, gloves, water and snack. Led by Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer mountain bike trail assistants.

Intermediate Mountain Bike Ride

Catch beautiful canyon views on this 10-mile ride over steep and uneven terrain (1,000-ft. elevation gain) with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer mountain bike trail assistants.

  • This bike ride is not for beginners. This is for INTERMEDIATE riders with mountain biking experience. 
  • Appropriate mountain biking equipment required.
  • Must have helmet, gloves, hydration; a snack is strongly suggested.
  • Be prepared for varied weather out in the canyons.

Dana Point Nature Interpretive Center Whale Walk & Talk

 Location: Nature Interpretive Center
From the Dana Point Nature Interpretive Center, we see many different species of whale and dolphin! Come learn about our largest animal visitors on an approximately 1.5 mile walk through the Dana Point Headlands conservation area. Bring your binoculars (or use ours!) and learn migration patterns of different whale species that frequent the area, as well as how to best spot, watch, and identify whales.

Redwood Grove Hike
OC Parks - Carbon Canyon Regional Park
 Location: Carbon Canyon Regional Park
 

Join OC Parks' trained staff on an easy 1.1 mile hike to the park's Coastal Redwood grove. You will use your 5 senses to engage with nature as you stroll to the Redwoods. You will also have an opportunity to learn about our native plants along the way. The hike begins each Saturday and Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the park's Nature Center. Don't forget to visit our Nature Center when you are there, too! 

  • Participants should remember water, sunscreen, hat and hiking shoes.
  • All ages (small children may have to be carried).
  • Meet at Nature Center located at east end of park.

Easter Eggstravaganza at Irvine Park Railroad

From Saturday, March 29 through Saturday, April 19, the Easter bunny will be at Irvine Park Railroad for the annual Easter Eggstravaganza. The Easter Eggstravaganza will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Children ages 2 through 12 can participate in an Easter egg hunt, where each egg will be filled with candy or a prize. The Easter egg hunts begin daily at 10 a.m. Tickets must be purchased on the day of the event in order to receive a wristband for the Easter egg hunt. There will also be a moon bounce, hay ride, Easter cookie decorating, picture stands, carnival games and face painting.

Children will have the opportunity to improve their reading skills and develop confidence reading aloud. Sophie, Zip, Venus, and their friends are certified therapy dogs that are very attentive and would love to spend time listening to your children. Each child will be allotted 10 minutes to read to one dog. Children may be able to read for more sessions if time allows. Call and schedule your child today!
