It’s the season, once again for Irvine Park Railroad’s annual Christmas Train. Come with family and friends and take this enchanting night ride through historic Irvine Regional Park to meet Santa Claus. The train will depart every 15 minutes from the brightly lit train station and drop you off at Santa’s Village.

Christmas Train tickets may be purchased to ride the train at a specific date and time – get in line and board the train any time during the hour for which you purchase tickets. Tickets may be purchased online ONLY beginning November 1. Tickets may not be purchased in person. Visit http://www.irvineparkrailroad.com/ for more details and to purchase tickets.

Long Distance Hike
OC Parks - Laguna Coast Wilderness Park
 Location: Laguna Coast Wilderness Park

Explore the beauty and diversity of Willow Canyon, Bommer Ridge and Emerald Canyon in the backcountry of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. This will be a strenuous, 7.2-mile hike (650-ft. elevation gain) over rocky, steep, and uneven terrain. We will hike through sycamore and oak woodlands, coastal sage scrub, and along ridges with beautiful vistas.

  • Participants should be fit and able to hike long distances.
  • For your safety and comfort bring 2-3 liters of water, a hat, a hearty snack and proper hiking shoes.
  • Ages 15 and up.
  • Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Willow Canyon Staging Area (west side of Laguna Canyon Rd/SR-133, just south of El Toro Road).

Nursery Plant Propagation and Care Day
OC Parks - Laguna Coast Wilderness Park
 Location: Laguna Coast Wilderness Park

Join us at our native plant nursery as we care for native plants from their seed stage to their mature, ready-to-be planted stage. Volunteers may collect seeds, sow seeds in flats, bump plants up, plant at restoration sites, sterilize plant containers, and/or help maintain the facilities for the plants. Gain hands-on experience with habitat restoration while working alongside other zany and interesting plant lovers! 

  • Wear closed-toed shoes, layered clothing and sun protection (hat, sunscreen).
  • Bring water.
  • Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Willow Canyon Staging Area (west side of Laguna Canyon Rd/SR-133, just south of El Toro Road). Park and walk up the gravel trail 100 yards to get to the small native plant nursery, just before the trailers.

First Saturday of the Month Morning Hike To The Redwood Grove
OC Parks - Carbon Canyon Regional Park
 Location: Carbon Canyon Regional Park
Join OC Parks' trained staff on the first Saturday of the month for an easy 1.1-mile early morning interpretive hike to the park's Coastal Redwood grove. You will use your 5 senses to engage with nature as you stroll to the Redwoods. You will also have an opportunity to learn about our native plants along the trail. The hike begins at 8:30 a.m. from the park's Nature Center.


Participants should remember water, sunscreen, hat and hiking shoes.

  • All ages (small children may have to be carried).
  • Meet at Nature Center located at east end of park.
  • Cost: FREE!

35th Annual Victorian Christmas

Relive the holiday customs of yesteryear for the last time at Heritage Hill’s 35th and final Victorian Christmas on December 3, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The park’s four historic buildings will be festively decorated for the season with live music, dance performances, local craft vendors, and food for purchase.  Bring your Christmas list and visit with Santa. Enjoy hands-on activities including Christmas ornament and card making, candle dipping, butter churning, Victorian-inspired crafts and games, and cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus. 

Admission is $5.00 per person for ages 3 and over (under the age of three are free).  Tickets are sold at the gate on the day of the event.

This creative writing workshop is recommended for 1st - 3rd graders. It is taught by Writer's Ink, a group of high school volunteers.

No pre-registration. First come, first seated for the first 24 students downstairs in the Community Room each Saturday at 3 pm. Students are let into the classroom at 2:50 pm.
