Wilderness Access Day: Limestone Canyon
OC Parks - Irvine Ranch Open Space

Start your weekend off by exploring the endless opportunities found throughout magnificent Limestone Canyon. Designated trails will be open for self-guided trail use in OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space. Trail routes vary in distance and level of difficulty with choices ranging from easy one-hour walks to strenuous 15-mile cardio treks. Whether traveling by feet, hooves or wheels, Wilderness Access Day in Limestone Canyon is a treasure waiting to be discovered by hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers alike.

Ranger Led Hike To Redwood Grove
OC Parks - Carbon Canyon Regional Park
 Location: Carbon Canyon Regional Park
Join OC Parks' trained staff on the first Saturday of the month for an easy 1.1-mile interpretive hike to the park's Coastal Redwood grove. You will use your 5 senses to engage with nature as you stroll to the Redwoods. You will also have an opportunity to learn about our native plants along the trail. The hike begins at 8:30 a.m. from the park's Nature Center. Don't forget to visit our Nature Center when you are there, too!

Participants should remember water, sunscreen, hat and hiking shoes.

  • All ages (small children may have to be carried).
  • Meet at Nature Center located at east end of park.

Saturday Family Fun Hike

When was the last time you took the family out to hike for pure enjoyment? On this summer excursion, we'll focus on fun facts and wildlife habits while answering questions from your little ones about the wild world. We'll also play nature themed games along the way. This is a 2-mile (150-ft. elevation gain).

Newport Bay Conservancy Summer Symposium
OC Parks - Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve

In and around the Upper Newport Bay, invasive species are not just a common annoyance in both marine and terrestrial environments but are very dangerous to the overall habitat in the Bay. Hosted by the Newport Bay Conservancy, attend this symposium and learn about many of these invasive species, their impacts on local ecosystems, and the efforts being undertaken to remove them.

Come and enjoy an easy, 2.5-mile family hike over moderate but uneven terrain (45-ft. elevation gain). Starting at the James Dilley Preserve, we will hike one of the most diverse areas of the park to Barbara’s Lake and back. Hike is led by Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalists.

  • Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, James Dilley Preserve (I-5 or 405 south to 133 south to stoplight at 73 toll road; make a U-turn, go 1 block. Dilley is on the right).
